The Republic of Bulgaria has no functioning embassy in the capital city Kinshasa. Bulgarian nationals staying for shorter or longer periods in Democratic Republic of the Congo may refer for consular questions to the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

When travelling to the DR Congo it is recommended to carry a small amount of money in cash, mainly US Dollars.
Crime and security
Travellers are advised to pay special attention to their security.
A very high level of criminal offence, robbery and theft is noted in the large cities and tourist centres.
There are mined areas in the country which are dangerous for visits without a local guide.
Travelling at night to be avoided.
Taking photos of airports, military objects, squares and others is prohibited.
Homosexuality is not prohibited in the DR Congo, however it is not accepted.
You may import an unlimited amount of foreign currency in DR Congo after declaring.
Export of foreign currency is allowed within the frames of the amount declared upon entry. Import of local currency is prohibited.
Commodities for personal use, including 200 pieces of cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 g tobacco and 1 l of alcohol may be imported.
Rather difficult transport connections. Bad road network. Upon entry by car, an insurance should be presented or bought.
Low level of health care. Numerous contagious diseases are widely spread.

Travel papers and visas
To enter the country an international passport is needed valid for at least 6 (six) months from the date of entry in Congo.
No stamp or visa for entry in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi are needed.
Immunisation against yellow fever is recommended.
Up to date information regarding the vaccination required for Congo can be obtained from the National Centre for Contagious and Parasitic Diseases at telephone: + 359 2 944 69 99 / 221.
Bulgarian nationals travelling to Congo (holders of ordinary, service and diplomatic passports) need a visa for a stay of up to 90 days, which they can obtain at the Embassy of D.R. Congo in Prague.
It is necessary to consume more liquids and low fat food and to avoid usage of alcohol.
Be cautious when consuming fruits and vegetables.
Travelling of children
There are no special requirements, however, it is recommendable for children to travel with separate passports.
Certification and Legalisation
In order to be valid in Bulgaria and so that they may serve before the Bulgarian institutions all documents of Bulgarian individuals issued by the authorities of D.R. Congo need to have the stamp of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of D.R. Congo. Then they are certified by the embassy of D.R. Congo in Prague. The signature and the certification of the consulate office are certified by the Bulgarian embassy in Prague.
So prepared, the documents should be translated in Bulgarian by an authorised translation agency in Bulgaria and the translation certified by the Certification and Legalisation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Emergency Travel Document
In emergency events – in case of ruined, lost or stolen passport, Bulgarian nationals may apply at the embassy of an EU member-state in Kinshasa for the issue of an Emergency Travel Document.
