The Exhibition "Alphabet and History" Opens the "Days of Bulgaria" in Thunder Bay, Canada
On October 17, 2024, the first-ever Bulgarian exhibition in the northern city of Thunder Bay, Ontario, will be inaugurated. The event is part of the "Days of Bulgaria" initiative in Canada, organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto, with the goal of promoting Bulgarian culture and traditions.
The exhibition "Alphabet and History," part of the "Traveling Exhibitions" program by the State Institute for Culture, is one of the event's highlights. It traces the role of Slavic writing in the cultural history of the Slavic peoples by presenting the development of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic scripts. The exhibition reveals the significance of Bulgarian script in preserving national identity and its impact on cultural interaction in the region. The authors, including Corresponding Member Aksinia Djurova and Professor Dr. Vasya Velinova, use 24 panels to guide visitors through the historical context and stages of the Slavic alphabet's development.
Thunder Bay's Mayor, Ken Bozhkov, who has Bulgarian roots, will be a special guest at the opening. The exhibition has already toured various Canadian cities, inspiring many visitors to learn more about Bulgarian history and even plan visits to Bulgaria.
