The State Institute for Culture is a Partner of an International Exhibition in Burgas
IN/OUT OF THE BOX
After the successful partnership of the State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the Herbarium project and the presentation of Bulgarian and Dutch artists in 2022/2023, the team now offers an unexpected research approach to communities that participate in the exchange of ideas and perceptual strategies in the contemporary art. The exhibition that will open in Burgas is a collection that has sealed in boxes 40x40x10 cm or 20x40x10 cm the creative energy of different generations of artists all over the world. The contents of each box are accompanied by a description and sound file, as well as additional information related to the biographies of the participants published on the website https://herbariumcollection.com/.
This ambitious project is realized by the curator Irina Batkova, who sends invitations to artists who choose two new participants each - thus, with the new additions to the collection, creative contacts in the art world are tracked. The exhibition in the contemporary art halls of the Burgas Library has a special focus on authors from France and Italy, who are of different national and cultural origins, but work in these countries and, as part of artistic circles, realize joint projects and exhibitions. Carried out within one of the exhibition models of the "In/Outside of the Box" archive, the selection includes artists from Bulgaria, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. At the end of the exhibition, after the screening of their portraits from the H Talks series, the artists from the Italian part of the "Herbarium" - Moira Ricci, Massimo Pullini and Kiril Cholakov - will be presented. They come to Bulgaria courtesy of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia.
The video portraits H Talks, directed by Milena Kaneva, are part of the Herbarium archive and document curator Irina Batkova's conversations with the artists, focused on their artistic practice in their working environment. All elements of the Herbarium project form a unique database for researchers, curators, gallerists, students and art connoisseurs interested in non-standard methods in the analysis of contemporary art. The project is implemented with the financial support of the Municipality of Burgas, in partnership with the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia.
