Informal meeting of the EU General Affairs Council
Ambassador Rumen Alexandrov, Bulgaria’s Permanent Representative to the EU, took part in the informal meeting of the General Affairs Council, organised by the Belgian Presidency of the EU in Brussels on 30 April 2024. 20 years after the EU’s big enlargement on 1 May 2024, the EU Member States and the current EU candidate countries (the six Western Balkan countries, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Turkey) met in Brussels. Prime Minister Glavchev: Bulgaria remains consistent in its support for Ukraine
Bulgaria remains consistent and will continue to express its full support for the people of Ukraine, its independence and will actively participate in the process of its reconstruction. This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at a meeting with Ukraine’s Ambassador Olesya Ilashchuk and Germany’s Ambassador Irene Maria Plank. The prime minister received an invitation to participate in the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which will be held in early June this year in Berlin.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Svetlan Stoev, today received at the Foreign Ministry representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev accepted the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs from Stefan Dimitrov. Glavchev also held a working meeting with the senior staff of the Foreign Ministry at the Foreign Ministry building. I count on your professionalism in the daily work, the prime minister said and highlighted the holding of fair elections as the top priority of the caretaker cabinet. For the first time, our Foreign Ministry will hold two elections in one - for the national and European Parliament, which is an additional prerequisite for serious mobilisation.

An EU Foreign Affairs Council is held in Luxembourg
The ordinary monthly meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council started today with a joint session with the defence ministers of the member states. Bulgaria was represented by Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov and the country's Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Rumen Alexandrov. The foreign and defence ministers discussed military support to Ukraine, with their Ukrainian counterparts Dmytro Kuleba and Rustem Umerov joining the discussion via video link.
