Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev meets OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann

02 May 2024 News

Bulgaria has the ambition this year to submit to the largest possible number of reviews in the Committees of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and I hope that the accession process will be finalized as soon as possible. This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at his meeting with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann on sidelines of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris.

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev noted that Bulgaria is prepared for intensive negotiations. “We try to implement the recommendations as given to us,” Mr. Glavchev said. He emphasized that at the second session of the OECD Global Parliamentary Network that was held in April, Bulgaria reiterated its commitment to set up a special parliamentary committee to be in charge of the discussion and passage of legislation relevant to the country’s accession to the OECD.

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev underscored, inter alia, Bulgaria’s support for OECD regional initiatives, in particular for the Regional Program for South-East Europe. The Program fosters reforms in the region so as to strengthen the private sector, to attract investment, to prepare the countries for EU membership and to advance adherence to OECD standards.

Further, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev underscored Bulgaria’s willingness to make a voluntary financial input to support Ukraine by the conclusion of an Agreement on Contribution to the OECD Country Program for Ukraine. The Agreement was ratified by the National Assembly on 23 April 2024.

In the course of the discussion, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev specially thanked Secretary-General Matthias Cormann for his support and commitment to the process of Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD. Also, the Prime Minister emphasized the excellent interaction with the OECD Secretariat and Committees. He expressed his confidence that this active dialog helps find the most appropriate solutions based on the recommendations made.
