It is a real pleasure for me to welcome most cordially the visitors to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Italian Republic. We would like this website to be an open window with useful and up-to-date information for Bulgarian and Italian nationals, connected with the Embassy’s activities and the services provided by it. Our intention is also to familiarise those who are interested in the history, culture, traditions and customs of Bulgaria, with the opportunities for tourism and for doing business in the country, as well as with the development of the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Italy. Using modern information and communication technologies that secure rapid and direct access to information, the Embassy is also trying to create better conditions for facilitating the contacts between the nationals of the two countries.

In 2004 we celebrated the 125th anniversary of the establishing of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Italy, which was an occasion to note with satisfaction the deep and far-reaching traditions of friendship between our two peoples, the excellent relations of fruitful cooperation that had been created from a political, trade, economic and cultural perspective.

Bulgaria is full member of the European Union since 1 January 2007. The bilateral relations are developing in a new framework today, acquiring the new quality of relations between equal partners in the European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. This gives us rounds to look forward with conviction to the further broadening of Bulgarian-Italian cooperation, both in its bilateral dimension and on the European and international scene. The aspirations to establish privileged partnership between Bulgaria and Italy in the European context is based on the shared values and ideals, and it is guided by our shared interests and efforts to build a united, stable and prosperous Europe, to attain lasting peace, security and greater harmony in the contemporary globalised world.
