Here you will find useful information about Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, about the activities of the Embassy, about the development of Bulgarian-Czech relations, about the positions of the two states as allies in the EU and NATO, and about their regional initiatives. We shall not miss significant events of the Bulgarian diaspora in the Czech Republic, and we shall cover all official visits and their results. On the Embassy’s website we shall also try to shed light on the wealth of the historical traditional links between Bulgarians and Czechs. These links were indeed remarkable during different periods in the history of the two nations. We have been bound together for eternity ever since the 9th century through the work of the Holy Brothers St. Cyril and St. Methodius, and their disciples. Bulgarians will never forget the major Czech contribution during the Bulgarian National Revival period and especially after Bulgaria’s liberation in the 19th century, the contribution to the strengthening of the Bulgarian statehood, to the Europeanisation of its administration, and to laying the foundations of Bulgarian science, economy and art.

The Czech nation, on its part, will always revere the heroism of the Bulgarians who fell in the fight against Nazism on the barricades in Prague in May 1945 for the freedom and independence of the Czech people. Czech society is also grateful for the contribution of the Bulgarian settlers to the country’s economy and culture after World War II.

Mutual contributions and interactions became even more significant and more lasting after the Republic of Bulgaria and the Czech Republic opened new pages in their history by embarking upon the road to democracy and a market economy, when they returned after 1989 to a civilised and prosperous Europe, where they have always naturally belonged.

The two states are justifiably proud not only because they participated together in the writing of the historical biography of Europe, but because they participate directly now in creating the future of Europe.

At present the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the Czech Republic are excellent in political, economic and cultural terms, and in many respects they are a manifestation of real friendship and real partnership. As T.G. Masaryk said, “Nothing is great, if it is not authentic.” Therefore, it is an extremely high honour and responsibility to serve for the development and intensification of Bulgarian-Czech relations.
