The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summons Iranian ambassador for meeting on Iran’s attack on Israel

17 April 2024 News

Iran’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bulgaria Alireza Irvash was summoned on 16 April 2024 to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of Iran’s attack on Israel on 14 April 2024.

During the meeting Gergana Karadzhova, Director General of Political Affairs, stressed to Ambassador Irvash that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns Iran’s attack on Israel in the strongest terms. This unprecedented act, unprecedented in its scale and nature, is not only a serious threat to the security of the Middle East region, but also adds grave new challenges to the global security architecture.

The Director General informed the Iranian Ambassador that guided by this understanding and appreciating in depth the catastrophic consequences of a possible large-scale direct military confrontation between Iran and Israel, the Bulgarian side reiterates its call for strict respect for the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and the norms of international law.

In line with the joint statement of the EU and its Member States of 14 April 2024, the Bulgarian side reiterated its call on all parties to show maximum restraint and not to take measures that could lead to further deterioration of the situation. A spiral of violence must be prevented.

The Director General informed the Iranian Ambassador that Bulgaria, together with its international partners, remains actively engaged in efforts aimed at seeking opportunities for the future establishment of a lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East and restoring political prospects for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
