On 2 March 2010, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marin Raykov made a statement in the high-level segment of the 13th Session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC).
The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Santiago, Chile, managed to contact most of the Bulgarians living there, among whom there are no casualties. The EU Member States have pooled their efforts in finding all European citizens in the affected areas. For the time being, there is no information about missing, injured or dead persons from these countries.
According to information from the Bulgarian Embassy in Chile, there is no major destruction after the earthquake that measured 8.8 on the Richter scale, which struck at 8:34 a.m. Bulgarian time. The Embassy staff and the buildings are in good condition.
On 26 February 2010, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Nickolay Mladenov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Romania Teodor Baconschi, who is in Bulgaria in the context of the official visit to Bulgaria by the Romanian delegation headed by Prime Minister Emil Boc.
