Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in France.

Diplomatic relations between France and Bulgaria date back to the 19th century. France traditionally enjoys good feelings on the part of Bulgarians, strengthened by historical ties and by France’s firm support for Bulgaria’s EU membership. Today France is among our strategic partners within the European Union which resulted in the signature of the Agreement on strategic cooperation on 4 July 2008 in Paris. The convergence of the positions on main topics of the EU-agenda provides for important perspectives of the bilateral relations.

As full member of the International Organisation of the Francophony since 1993, Bulgaria has the ambition of promoting the spreading of the influence of the French language: as a language, civilisation, culture and knowledge, but also as the bearer of the democratic values shared by the francophone countries, as well as the cultural diversity of Europe and of the World. Its message has been heart with the election of its Ambassador in France Mrs. Irina Bokova as a Director General of UNESCO in October 2009.
